In a pair of incredible feats of editing, Bell Media sports network TSN welcomes the FIFA World Cup to Canada. The country will host six matches in Toronto and seven in Vancouver as the tournament is played across North America, including the U.S. and Mexico.
One spot, titled "It's Our Time," starts with a ball falling out of the sky and softly hitting the ground. As the spot gets going, the ball starts moving faster, and soon it’s being dribbled, headed and kicked by people all over the country. The spot flows between actual Canadian National Team pros, student athletes, backyard warriors, commentators and more, smoothly moving from scene to scene. Video is captured in studio, on the pitch, in the living room, on set – anywhere the ball may bounce.
“It’s been years in the making,” sings the accompanying track.
In a second spot, titled "Feel It Coming" and set to The Weeknd's song of the same title, the camera follows the iconic World Cup trophy through many situations (including putting it in a "is it cake" scenario) before making it a part of a tune-in message.
The FIFA World Cup began Thursday, June 11 and runs through Sunday, July 19. In Canada, fans can watch matches on TSN, CTV and Crave with games in French broadcast on RDS.
