The main title maestros at Los Angeles-based Elastic have again partnered with Cardiff, Wales-based Rough Collie to produce an animation-driven main-title sequence. This time, it’s for AppleTV Plus’ sci-fi comedy, Murderbot, starring Alexander Skarsgård. Last time, it was for AppleTV Plus’ Lessons in Chemistry, based on Bonnie Garmus' best-selling novel and starring Brie Larson.

Both sequences were produced under the guidance of creative director Hazel Baird, who also oversaw the Emmy-nominated opening credits for AppleTV Plus’ The Morning Show.

The sequence features both stop-motion animation and color-saturated motion graphics, starting from when the security units (sec units for short) are assembled on a factory line and then sent off for work, soaring through multi-colored space.

In the series, which is based on Martha Wells’ best-selling The Murderbot Diaries, a security unit (Skarsgård) hacks his operating system to gain free will, but he knows he needs to keep his secret hidden. When he’s deployed on a planet to keep a group of scientists safe, he mostly spends his time watching inter-galactic soap operas in his helmet … until it’s time to fulfill his mission.

Murderbot also stars Noma Demezweni and David Dastmalchian. It’s executive produced by Paul and Chris Weitz.

Murderbot started streaming May 16 on AppleTV Plus.
